Details are so important when writing a story. If you use the line "the girl sat down by the water", the reader will learn that your main character is female and that she lives near water. But if instead you write, "the girl sat down in the sand, staring out at the vast blueness of the Indian Ocean", your reader now has learned a lot more about your character. She is no longer a girl who might live by a lake but a girl who lives in a foreign country, along the shores of the Indian Ocean. So don't just look at the flowers. Let us know if they are roses (then it is summer)or tulips (then it's spring). Details are important. Use them wisely to strengthen your story. |
